Study Group/Discussion: Solar Geoengineering: Why, How, Where, Who Photo

This study group will review the basics of solar geoengineering, starting with why this highly controversial proposal may prove of unique value in an array of prospective responses to the climate crisis.  It will then review the nuts and bolts of implementation before reviewing new work on where it might be utilized and what global actors could reasonably undertake deployment.  Solar geoengineering would seek to cool the earth by deploying large masses of reflective aerosol particles high in the atmosphere, mimicking the cooling impact periodically caused by large volcanic eruptions. It is not a direct substitute for emissions reductions but could ameliorate damages resulting from excessive heat.

This in-person Study Group is open to all. Registration is not necessary.
